The goal of New Pro is to make it easy for you to follow work-related news using suggestions from Bing. Sound familiar to Feedly or Flipboard? Well, it is, but with a Microsoft spin. It’s less of a general news app like MSN news, but rather it focuses on the industry you’re in. Here’s the description for the app:
Microsoft News Pro for iOS
You can download News Pro by visiting this page on your iOS device, or you’ll find it in the App Store. It’s meant to work best on the smaller screens of iPhone or iPod Touch, but you can use it on iPad, too. Get informed efficiently by locating the most important and relevant articles each day based off what interests you. Leverage the power of social networks for your daily news. You can sign-in on Facebook and LinkedIn to tailor your daily news highlights to your work experience and interests. Find articles and topics you didn’t know you needed. News Pro allows you to extend the scope of your daily news updates by suggesting new topics to search based off your current interests and by helping you discover websites where you can read articles that are interesting to you. You can also search for news related to any topic right in the app so you can always be fully informed. After you download it, you can sign with your LinkedIn or Facebook account for a more personalize it. Or you can start using it without signing in.
As with similar mobile news apps, you’ll need to do some adjusting of your interests, and News Pro provides extensive options. The Explore tab allows you to choose from a large list of industries, companies, and products to follow. You can also like, comment, or share articles. Of course, there is also a Search feature as well.
Another interesting feature built-in is called Speedy Mode. That is similar to Reading View in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 where it strips the web version of ads and just displays the text and embedded images.
It also provides a “Pilot” mode that lists recommended topics to follow. There is a lot of customizations options here. This will help tweak your feed to narrow down specific topics.
Microsoft has spent a lot of time and effort making its apps and services available on iOS and Android, so it seems reasonable that it would try a news app, too. Give it a try and let us know what you think of this new endeavor from Microsoft on iOS. For now, News Pro will only be available on iOS, but if you can also use the web-based version on your laptop or other mobile devices like Android or Windows Phone.
